Supporting responsible forestry Going beyond compliance

In line with our corporate responsibility policy and as part of the Metsäliitto Group, we are committed to using primary wood fibre sourced only from sustainably managed forests, where economic, social and environmental impacts are weighed up carefully. We are also dedicated to promoting reliable forest certification systems which are based on independent third-party verification and are tailored for local conditions.

Sustainable forest management guarantees the preservation of forest biodiversity and the steady production of wood raw material, which benefits both the forest owner and the industry. The basis for sustainable forest management is that harvesting must not exceed growth.

The conservation of forest biodiversity and endangered species is subject to strict regulation under national forest legislation and instructions on forest management. Voluntary forest certification systems help to enhance forest management to meet even stricter standards than those required by legislation. At present, only eight per cent of the world’s forests have been certified.
