Efficient use of wood  Not a twig wasted

Metsäliitto Group, of which Metsä Tissue is a part, utilises its wood raw material to the fullest extent. Its various production processes yield co-products which form valuable raw material for its subsidiaries and also for other branches of industry.

Logs, for instance, are utilised in the group’s saw mills and in the wood products industry. The sawmill industry’s co-products – wood chips and sawdust – are supplied to the pulp and board industry as raw material for pulp. They are also utilised for applications such as soil improvement and sawdust running tracks.

Wood harvesting residues, wood bark and black liquor from pulp making processes are incinerated to produce bio-energy for production and the surrounding communities.

The wood-based products produced by Metsäliitto Group can be reused, recycled or burnt for energy at the end of their life cycle. Metsä Tissue, for instance, uses recovered paper for making tissue paper products.
