Policy Quality and Environmental policy  

Insistence on quality and care for the environment are high priorities in Metsä Tissue's business strategy. We recognise that sustainable use of natural resources and environmental protection and management are crucial for sustainable economic growth and the well-being of our employees and the whole of society. Consumers and our end users and customers expect us to demonstrate a high level of environmental commitment, and we do our utmost to deliver on our promise of sustainability.

We accept responsibility for the environmental impact of our actions. Over and above meeting our legal obligations, we strive to continuously improve our operations and reduce their environmental impact by systematically developing our products, processes and work practices. Metsä Tissue is committed to supporting sound environmental principles, social responsibility and economic viability as well as sustainable forest management. Our products are made of renewable raw materials and they are both biodegradable and compostable.

We seek to use natural resources as sparingly as possible, without compromising the performance of our products. As a guiding aim of our policy, we continually strive to improve the energy efficiency of our operation, minimise the environmental impacts of our products and processes and develop transport solutions that reduce emissions. We aim to work in a lean, clean and safe way.

We offer consumers and customers maximum value by adhering to the very strictest standards of quality, safety and environmental excellence. One of our key goals is to achieve consistent product quality in an environmentally sustainable way. Mill operations and procedures are defined in the quality and environmental management systems used by each of our mills. In all our operations, we seek not only to fulfil legal requirements, but to exceed what is expected of us in the arena of environmental responsibility. Our training programmes ensure that all our employees have the competence and commitment to care for the environment and uphold our high standards of quality.

We maintain a continuous dialogue on environmental and quality issues with consumers, end users, customers and other stakeholder groups. Their views guide our targets and the work we do to achieve them. We strive for greater consumer-perceived quality throughout the business chain, from suppliers through to end users.

Metsä Tissue Corporation and its management are committed to implementing this Quality and Environmental Policy at all levels of the company.

This Quality and Environmental Policy has been approved by Metsä Tissue's Management Team. The policy was reviewed and updated in November 2009.
