It all started several hundred years ago

Metsä Tissue as a company has its origins in G.A. Serlachius Oy, a Finnish wood processing company founded in 1868. Serlachius and later Metsä-Serla have been pioneering and leading manufacturers of tissue products in Finland since the beginning of the 20th century. Read more...

The first paper mill of the Strepp family was founded by Johann Michael Strepp near Düren, Germany Pauliström steel mill, which later on became a tissue mill, was founded in Sweden by Wilhelm Mauritz Pauli Warszawskie Zaklady Papiernicze was founded near Warsaw in Poland Anders Rodin started production of rag paper for printing, writing and wrapping at Catrinafors mill (Katrinefors) in Sweden Mänttä mill was founded by pharmacist G.A. Metsä Tissue became the largest supplier of tissue paper products in Poland Metsä Tissue acquired a majority shareholding in the Polish tissue paper converting company Krapex Metsä Tissue's share was delisted from the Helsinki Exchanges. The ownership of all shares has been transferred to M-real Corporation. M-real Corporation sold in January 2004 first 66 % of Metsä Tissue's business activities to Metsäliitto Cooperative and 17 % to Tapiola Group, a Finnish insurance company. Later in January M-real sold its remaining shares in Metsä Tissue: 9.86 % of the shares were sold to Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company and 7.14 % to Sampo Life Insurance Company Ltd. Metsä Tissue acquired Tento a.s., a leading tissue paper company in Slovakia, and became the market leader in the Central-Eastern European market
