We know the origin of our raw materials

Fibre

Metsä Tissue uses equal amounts both primary and recycled fibre as the main raw material for tissue paper products. As we do not have primary fibre pulp mills of our own, all primary fibre pulp needed is bought from external suppliers. We seek to ensure the origins of the primary fibre used and our objective is to use raw materials only from certified forests. We gather our raw materials from as close to our mills as possible.

Metsä Tissue's policy on wood and fibre sourcing

Energy

The production of tissue paper consumes significant amounts of energy, namely electricity and heat. There are two ways to reduce environmental impacts: reducing the total amount of energy consumed and using environmentally sound energy sources. Metsä Tissue has achieved improvements in both these areas by improving the control of production processes and by utilizing production waste as a source of energy.

Water

Water is an important raw material in tissue paper production. This is the reason for locating tissue paper mills close to natural water resources like lakes and rivers. Metsä Tissue is constantly reducing the discharges to waterways by reducing the amount of water used in the production process and by improving biological effluent treatment processes.
