Metsä Tissue's new complete range of Katrin high performance hand towels will debut at ISSA/INTERCLEAN® Amsterdam 2006 (Hall 3; Stand No 03.201).

With concern over health issues in cleaning and viruses such as SARS, MRSA, hospital acquired infections and now avian flu at their highest ever, society is finally recognising the importance that proper hand hygiene plays in preventing the spread of infection. Yet the virtues of proper hand drying with a quality paper towel are still often misunderstood.

Considering the fact that during a typical hand wash increased levels of bacteria will be released from the inner layers of the skin, the importance of effective hand drying cannot be overstated. In comparison to using air dryers to dry hands which can actually increase the amount of bacteria on their surface, using a quality paper towel can significantly reduce their number. Higher absorbency towels can further improve this with their increased uptake of moisture from the hands.
