History timeline

  1. 1905

    Founded

The mill was founded in 1905 as a pulp mill. The technical director, later general manager of the pulp mill was Tomáš Nečas. The mill was inaugurated on the 6th of March 1906. After the construction of the mill, a residential area was built for the mill employees. It became the largest residential are in Zilina.

  2. 1941

    Production of sulphite alcohol

In 1941, production of sulphite alcohol from sulphite waste of pulp production began.

  3. 1983

    Production of tissue paper

In 1983, production of tissue paper products began at the mill. In those years, the average consumption of tissue paper in Czechoslovakia was 3 kg per capita. The average for Western Europe was 12 kg, which was four times the potential growth.

  4. 1992

    End of pulp production

In the 1980s, the town spread out closer to the mill with the construction of the Vlčince housing area. The operation of the mill was not ecologically feasible and extensive reconstruction had to be carried out with minimal impact on the town's environment. This meant the end of the production of pulp.

  5. 1997

    Tento, a.s.

In 1997, the company was transformed into Tento, a.s. and continued to produce tissue paper products exclusively.

  6. 2006

    Ownership change

In 2006, Metsä Tissue took over the ownership of Tento, a.s.
