In Germany, Metsä Tissue has production facilities in four locations: Düren, Kreuzau, Raubach and Stotzheim.

Our brands

At our mills in Raubach and Kreuzau we produce hygiene tissue products for our brands Mola and Katrin. Additionally, we also produce tissue products for our customers’ own brands.

At our mill in Stotzheim we produce napkin tissue products. Our napkin branded offering to retail customers as well as to professional customers is sold under the FASANA brand. We also supply napkin products tailored for our customers’ own brands.

At Düren mill we produce greaseproof baking and cooking paper – for our brand SAGA but for professional users of Baking and Cooking Papers as well.

Düren Mill

Düren mill was established in 1857, and Metsä Tissue acquired the mill in 2010. After a full rebuild of the paper machine and related assets, the mill launched production and converting of greaseproof paper in 2011.

Now greaseproof baking and cooking papers is produced at the site and approximately 100 employees are working in production, maintenance and logistics. At Düren mill we have one greaseproof paper machine and six converting lines.

A state-of-art distribution centre for Metsä Tissue products was built in December 2008.The centre is located some 6 kilometres from the mill. The centre ensures efficient distribution and decreases transports and emissions.

Did you know?

Our Baking and cooking paper promotes low fat cooking and helps to reduce food waste. After use, you can either burn or sort it as organic waste, because the paper is both biodegradable and compostable.

Kreuzau Mill

The mill has been established in 1868 by the Strepp family to produce packaging paper. The first tissue machine was built in 1965. In 1980 the company owners decided to stop producing packaging paper and to focus on tissue. The mill became part of Metsä Tissue in 1999.

Toilet tissue, household towels and industrial rolls are produced at Kreuzau mill. Approximately
390employees are working in production, maintenance, logistics, business and administration.
Kreuzau mill is Metsä Tissue’s biggest mill.

At the mill we have four tissue paper machines, 10 converting lines and a deinking plant where material is processed that is used for the production process.

Raubach Mill

In 1873 the mill was converted from an iron works plant into a hygiene paper mill for medical uses under the management of the Milchsack family. In 1929 the company was taken over by the Halstrick family and since 1998 the mill has been part of Metsä Tissue.

In Raubach Mill, we have two tissue paper machines and 9 converting lines. At this site we produce toilet tissue, handkerchiefs, hand towels and industrial rolls.

Approximately 280 employees are working in production, maintenance, logistics, product and process development, business and administration.

The Competence Center Tissue (CCT) R&D unit is located adjacent to the Raubach mill.

  • We have a recycling rate which is higher than 50%.
  • We use 100% certified fibres for manufactuaring our products.
  • We realize a low specific water consumption
  • We realize a low specific energy consumption

    All these factors are implemented in a management system for continuous further development.

Stotzheim Mill

Stotzheim Mill was established in 1919 by Adolf Halstrick and Mr and Mrs Stauff. After a rebuild, the production of tissue paper started in 1926. The production of napkins started in 1928. The mill became part of Metsä Tissue in 1998.

The mill produces tissue for napkins and handkerchiefs and converted napkins. There is one tissue paper machine and 16 converting lines. At the site approximately 260 employees are working in production, maintenance, logistics, product and process development, business and administration.

  • We installed a heating distribution network for secondary use of waste heat.

Certified Management Systems 

To ensure continuous improvement of our operations and systematic implementation of the corporate responsibility principles, all our paper mills have a certified ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 environmental management system. Also an Energy Efficiency System (EES) is in use.

The majority of our mills are certified with the OHSAS 18000 occupational health and safety management system. All our mills manufacturing food contact materials such as napkins, baking and cooking products are certified either with an ISO 22000 or BRC  food safety management system. 

Additionally Eco-labels such as the EU Flower and the Blue Angel are a strong signal of our environmental commitment.

Our mills hold a valid Chain of Custody certificate as proof that they adhere to our wood origin management system for PEFC™ or FSC® or even both.
