Metsä Tissue acquires a majority shareholding in the Polish company Warszawskie Zaklady Papiernicze S.A. (WZP).

Metsä Tissue is listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange (HEX) in December.
Metsä Tissue acquires two German tissue paper companies, Halstrick and Strepp.
2002
Metsä Tissue acquires a majority shareholding in the Polish company Zaklady Papiernicze Krapkowicach S.A. (ZPK). Metsä Tissue becomes the largest supplier of tissue paper products in Poland.
2003
Metsä Tissue acquires a majority shareholding in the Polish tissue paper converting company Krapex.
Metsä Tissue's share is delisted from the Helsinki Exchanges. Ownership of all shares is transferred to M-real Corporation (former Metsä-Serla).
2004
In January, M-real Corporation sells 66% of Metsä Tissue's business to Metsäliitto Cooperative and 17% to Tapiola Group, a Finnish insurance company.
Later in January M-real sells its remaining shares in Metsä Tissue: 9.86% to Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company and 7.14% to Sampo Life Insurance Company Ltd.
2006
Metsä Tissue acquires Tento a.s., a leading tissue paper company in Slovakia, becoming the market leader in the Central and Eastern European market.
2008
Local converting of Consumer and Away-from-Home products is launched in Russia.
2010
Metsä Tissue acquires a paper machine, related real estate and infrastructure in Düren (Düren mill), Germany.
