“I see myself as a coach enabling my team to make the right decisions quickly.”
I came on board as a summer employee in customer service back in 1988. I stayed on while studying marketing, and have moved up through several positions including trade marketing manager and logistics coordinator. I was appointed head of corporate logistics in 2003, and when the supply chain function was created in 2007, I was offered my current job.
In my primary role as head of the Supply Chain for Scandinavia, I am responsible for customer service, distribution, warehousing, and supply & production planning. Our main target is to get orders delivered on time, in full, and at the lowest possible cost and environmental impact. We strive to balance our costs and increase efficiency while maintaining a high standard of customer service. I basically see myself as a coach enabling my team to make the right decisions quickly and thereby fulfil our targets.
In my second role as Corporate Owner for Demand & Supply Planning, I am responsible for developing corporate-wide processes for demand, supply and production planning. This includes things like deciding the best mill from which to supply our products. I am lucky to have really good team members supporting me in both my roles.
I am currently involved in a major corporate project. My wife and I are both working on this project, so we moved to Finland with our two young sons last autumn. Finland isn’t so different from Sweden – probably the biggest change is living in a big city after a small town like Mariestad.
After over 20 years with the company, I obviously have no complaints about Metsä Tissue as an employer. The company is just big enough to offer great career challenges, yet small enough to let you see the whole picture and make a difference. It offers an interesting mix: it’s a fast-moving consumer goods company, but at the same time it’s part of a traditional forest industry group where long-term, sustainable thinking comes naturally.
